Important Classroom Information

  1. Listen And Follow Directions
  2. Respect Your Classmates And Your Teacher
  3. Keep Hands, Feet, And Objects to Yourself

Also, please abide by the rules as set out in the student handbook.

Consequences:

Do the Crime... Pay the Time… If you choose to make a poor behavioral decision at any time in class, you are disrupting the learning environment. That is unfair to you, to me, and your classmates. If you do make poor choices:

First Offense: Eye contact or other quiet correction.

Second Offense: Verbal warning.

Third Offense: You may be sent to the office.

** Please note that in extreme situations, students who seriously interrupt the learning environment will automatically be sent out of the classroom!

Cheating and Plagiarism: Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. The full policy is set out clearly in the student handbook. Any student who violates this school rule will receive a 0 on the assignment in question. For the first offense, the student may redo the assignment with their own work, but the initial score will remain at a 0%.

Homework: You will be expected to complete assigned homework in a timely manner.

Tutoring: I will offer tutoring Monday-Friday from 7:45 to 8:15 am.

Make-Up Work: If you are absent, you are responsible for checking our Schoology site and speaking to me to get missed assignments. You will have an appropriate amount of time (one day per day missed, in general) to make up an assignment. However, it must be completed in a timely manner or it will not be accepted. If you do not understand the material studied, you may attend tutoring or ask before class begins.

Extra Credit: Rare, but it happens. When extra credit is offered, it is offered to all students.

Materials: You must bring your charged computer, two sharpened pencils, notebook, and your reading packet with you to each class. These materials will be available in class on a limited basis if you forget to bring your own.

Letter grades will be determined using a point system. More challenging and longer assignments are worth more points; less challenging and shorter assignments are worthier fewer points. At the end of the quarter, your accumulated points are converted to percentages which determine your grade.

Grade Breakdown:

10%      Classwork

Quizzes: Quizzes can be announced or unannounced. NOTE: Open-book quizzes are not eligible for retakes.

Tests: You will be given ample notice of upcoming tests. Please make sure you study! We will work together on solid strategies for studying and success.

Projects and Papers: You will be responsible for keeping track of the due dates for major assignments and papers. You will also be given rubrics and checklists to allow you to be sure that you know well in advance the required components of papers and projects.

Participation: Your voice, thoughts, ideas, and well-considered arguments will add much to our class discussions. Therefore, I hope you will choose to be an active member of our learning classroom. I would like to see you raise your hand to ask and answer questions. Take part in whatever activity we are engaged in, whether it is note-taking, research, discussion, or class work.
