Important Classroom Information

Rules:

  1. Listen And Follow Directions
  2. Respect Your Classmates And Your Teacher
  3. Keep Hands, Feet, And Objects to Yourself

Also, please abide by the school rules as set out in the student handbook. These rules keep it so that the classroom can be a place for learning and community, so we can all learn.

Consequences:

If you choose to make a poor behavioral decision at any time in class, you are disrupting the learning environment.

First Offense: Eye contact or other quiet correction.

Second Offense: Verbal warning.

Third Offense: You will be written up.

In extreme situations, if you seriously interrupt the learning environment you will automatically be sent out of the classroom with a write up!

We will be doing a lot of work with our Chromebooks in this classroom so be sure to have them charged and ready when you come into class.

If your Chromebooks are not charged (in the morning) you will have to hand over your phone to me and receive it from the office at the end of the day.

Please let me know if there are any other concerns with Chromebook charging or access and I will try and accommodate as best as possible.
Homework: This class functions almost entirely within the classroom setting and there will rarely be "homework". Any work that needs to be completed at home will be leftover from that day's lesson.

Late work Policy: You have three weeks to turn in missing assignments, or until a deadline that will allow me to grade it before the end of the quarter/unit test. Let me know in writing that you have turned in missing work. Consequence for late work: -11% (day 2); -22% (Week 2); -33% (week 3). After the third week, or the end of the unit to which the work is related, I will not accept makeup work.
Grade Breakdown:
Classwork & Journals: 10% / Minor Papers & Projects: 20% / Quizzes: 40% / Tests & Major Projects: 30%
Grade Scale:
A          90-100% | B          80-89% | C          70-79% | D          60-69% | F          ≤ 59%

Quizzes (40% of grade): Quizzes can be announced or unannounced. If you are absent the day of a quiz, you are expected to make it up the first day you return to school. As with any other assignment, you lose points for putting off making up quizzes, and after three weeks they will not be accepted. NOTE: The vocab quizzes related to bellwork cannot be redone.

Tests & Major Projects (30% of grade): The school mandates a pretest, midterm, and posttest for the year (those are standardized). We will do a major project at the end of each unit that will allow you to demonstrate that you have learned and understood the material we studied in that unit. You will be responsible for keeping track of the due dates for major assignments and papers.

Minor Projects and Papers (20% of grade): We will do short essays and minor projects in each unit.

Participation: Your voice, thoughts, ideas, and well-considered arguments will add much to our class discussions. Therefore, I hope you will choose to be an active member of our learning classroom. I would like to see you raise your hand to ask and answer questions. Take part in whatever activity we are engaged in, whether it is note-taking, research, discussion, or class work.
